Nominal mass for small molecules

Nominal Mass can use High or Low Resolution Mass Spectrometry to determine the presence, or absence, of a compound (e.g., reaction monitoring), purity, relative concentration, and molecular weight. We can measure as low as 50 Da. Nominal mass is a great way to check your compounds and can often be run as self-operated for your convenience.

  • For nominal mass without fragmentation, the Agilent Infinity LC/MSD with ESI source can be used. This system also has an in-line UV detector.
  • For nominal mass with MSn fragmentation, the Thermo Scientific LTQ-XL with ESI source can be used. While most only perform MS1-MS3, this system can perform up to MS10 (although further MSn events can be performed, after MS10 the signal is generally too dilute to obtain useful information).
  • For nominal mass of volatile compounds, the Thermo Scientific ISQ GC-MS with EI or CI source can be used. This system also has a headspace sampler.
  • For high resolution mass analysis without fragmentation, the Agilent 6230 TOF with ESI or DART source can be used. This system also has an in-line UV detector.
